PVL postpones knockout semis, do-or-die final due to PhilSports Arena power outage
MANILA, Philippines – For the second time in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference, the league is postponing a game day due to unforeseen circumstances, this time its high-stakes knockout semifinal matches due to a PhilSports Arena power outage on Thursday, August 29.
Because of the stunning development caused by heavy rains in the area, the semis bouts have been moved to the reserved Saturday, August 31 venue at the Mall of Asia Arena, while the knockout final has been set on Monday, September 2, at the Araneta Coliseum.
The top-seeded Akari Chargers were supposed to stake their historic, undefeated 9-0 run against the veteran PLDT High Speed Hitters in the opening match, while the star-less Creamline Cool Smashers were set to push their underdog narrative further against the second-seeded Cignal HD Spikers.
The matches will be slotted at 2:30 pm and around 4:30 pm, respectively, on Saturday at the MOA Arena, a slight bump up from their initial 4 pm and 6 pm slots.
Meanwhile, the bronze-medal match will now be at 4 pm on Monday and the winner-take-all final will be at around 6 pm, followed by the awarding ceremony sometime before midnight.
“The PVL sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciates the understanding and patience of everyone affected,” the league wrote in a statement.
“The league is dedicated to maintaining a secure and enjoyable environment for our events and is working diligently to ensure a smooth transition to the new venue and date.”
All purchased tickets for the original date will be automatically refunded, the league assured. The refund amount will be credited back to the original payment method, whether it be a bank account, card, or e-wallet. – Rappler.com
