Man shot by Portland police released from hospital, faces charges

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who was shot by Portland police on Saturday after allegedly acting erratically and carrying weapons has been released from the hospital and now faces multiple charges, authorities said.

The man was identified as Robert D. Seeger, who was transported from the hospital to the Multnomah County Detention Center on Wednesday, Portland police said.

The incident leading up to the shooting happened on Aug. 24 in the 7600 block of North Portsmouth Avenue after a man was reportedly seen carrying a gun and a hammer in the early evening.

When officers tried to contact him, he took cover behind a car and remained armed.

Both the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Response Team rushed to the scene.

The man kept hopping from behind cars and in-and-out of a nearby apartment, officials said.

Authorities said officers deployed a less-lethal round, then shot a lethal round and wounded the suspect. However, he "continued to disobey commands from officers," police said.

A K-9 unit was eventually used to take the man into custody and he was taken to a hospital for what police described at the time as non-life-threatening injuries.

Seeger, 52, is accused of three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, burglary, three counts of menacing and previous warrants.
