Pheasant salad sandwiches, by the thousand.Throughout World War II, soldiers traveling toward training or deployment on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad all passed through Aberdeen, where the local canteen quickly developed a reputation for its free pheasant salad sandwiches.
