Summer heat returns Thursday around the PNW
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Summer heat returns in a big way for the greater Portland, Vancouver metro area Thursday.
Sunny skies and late-August heat begins to build across the Pacific Northwest Thursday. A KOIN 6 Weather Alert goes into place Friday and will continue through Saturday as temps near the triple-digits. This latest stint of high heat will end just before Labor Day Monday.
Near record-breaking temperatures are possible, but unlikely in this latest heat wave. Those spending time at the Oregon State Fair, football games this weekend, or for Labor Day celebrations should use caution as temperatures soar this week.
The roller coaster ride of temperatures is expected to take the Portland area into the start of September. That's where highs will drop and clouds will increase for the start of meteorological fall on the first of the month.
A brief break from the heat comes Monday and Tuesday. Another warming trend comes by the middle of next week, but isn't expected to be as warm as the final few days of August.
