A pro-Palestine protester interrupted Vice President Kamala Harris' rally in Savannah, Georgia, on Thursday, but was quickly shouted down by the crowd and thrown a bone by the Democratic nominee for president.
As Harris talked about "hard-fought and hard-won fundamental freedoms," a protester shouted behind her. Harris continued speaking, but the audience then tried to shout down the protester and loudly chanted "Kamala" as she briefly turned to see what was happening.
She smiled at the audience as they continued chanting for her. Turning back again, Harris urged the audience to quiet so she could speak.
"Let me just say something. Hold on. Hold up. Hold up for a second. Hold up for a second. Let me just say something," she urged the shouting audience.
Harris supporters were working to force the protester up the stairs, as she waved a black and white keffiyeh scarf. No law enforcement appeared to be involved.
"We are fighting for a democracy," she explained. "Everyone has a right and should have their voices heard. I am speaking now, but on the subject, I will say this — the president and I are working around the clock. We've got to get a hostage deal done and get a cease-fire done now."
The crowd erupted, and Harris continued with her speech.
Pro-Palestine protesters have appeared at many rallies for Harris and, before that, Joe Biden. They were also present at the Israeli Consulate in downtown Chicago during the Democratic Party Convention.
