Japan's economy grew last quarter on healthy consumer spending

TOKYO, Japan: Japan's economy expanded at an annual rate of 3.1 percent in the April-June period, rebounding from a contraction in the previous quarter, according to the latest government data.

The world's fourth-largest economy grew 0.8 percent in the fiscal first quarter, driven by solid consumer spending and business investment.

Seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) measures the value of a
