Rappler Talk: Congressman Joel Chua on VP Sara Duterte’s refusal to defend OVP budget

MANILA, Philippines – It’s not unusual for heated arguments to erupt in the House. What is rare is to see the Philippines’ second highest official bicker with members of Congress — unprovoked — in an apparent breakdown of decorum.

That’s what happened on Tuesday, August 27, when Vice President Sara Duterte refused to answer questions thrown at her, over her proposed 2025 budget, and confidential expenses in previous years’ appropriations.

Rappler’s political reporter Dwight de Leon sits down with Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua, one of the lawmakers who tried to squeeze information out of the veep but failed, prompting him to exclaim, “She’s not answering my questions.”
