Temps soar with unofficial end to summer around Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The unofficial end to summer comes with high heat around the Portland, Vancouver metro area this year.
Labor Day Monday is typically the unofficial end to the summer season as pools and splash pads close and school begins. However, temperatures are on the rise as August ends and meteorological fall begins Monday.
A KOIN 6 Weather Alert is in place Friday and Saturday as high temps coincide with multiple outdoor activities. The Oregon State Fair, multiple outdoor sporting events, and holiday travel are just a few events where high heat could impact those who are sensitive to warmer temperatures.
Heat alerts have been issued east of the Cascades for Saturday. North Central Oregon will see temperatures warm into the mid-90s as overnight lows remain mild. Relief from the heat comes as early as Labor Day Monday. That's where afternoon highs will return to near-average conditions.
