ODOT: Expect delays on U.S. 101 near Manzanita through Labor Day weekend due to damaged bridge
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — U.S. 101 is down to one lane at milepost 39, four miles north of Manzanita on the Oregon Coast, transportation officials said.
The partial closure comes from damage to a bridge, which saw a portion of the sidewalk and guardrail collapse into the Necarney Creek in the Oswald West State Park area.
"The single-lane traffic flagging is likely to continue into the holiday weekend, so expect delays traveling in the Oswald West State Park area," the Oregon Department of Transportation said. "Please drive carefully and watch for traffic slowdowns during this busy holiday travel weekend."
Officials say the sidewalk section that collapsed into the creek below was part of the bridge's original construction, which was built in 1937.
In Astoria, U.S. 30 has also closed down near Second Street after a crash caused a power pole to come down. Delays and detours are expected Thursday night.
People are advised to plan ahead for any trips in each area, including checking ODOT's TripCheck site before hitting the road.
