The epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s, has been written by the show’s creator, Steven Knight, who will co-produce alongside Caryn Mandabach, Cillian Murphy and Guy Heeley.
The film will be made in association with BBC Film.
Tom Harper, who directed episodes in the first season in 2013, returns to helm the film.
Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby, the role he played over six seasons between 2013 to 2022.
Rebecca Ferguson is also in the cast for the highly anticipated follow-up film as a new character.
The plot and further casting remain tightly under wraps.
This comes after Barry was dumped by his American music star girlfriend, Sabrina Carpenter, after she grew tired of his party lifestyle.
The 25-year-old singer begged her man not to break her heart on hit Please Please Please.
But while her track soared to the top of the charts, Barry is no longer No1 for Sabrina.
A source told The Sun that the American singer dumped the Irish actor because his party lifestyle was getting in the way of their relationship.
Dublin-born Barry and Sabrina, who has opened for Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour, were first linked in December last year when they were spotted having dinner together in Los Angeles.
A source said: “Barry acts like an idiot when he is drunk and Sabrina was getting increasingly frustrated.
“He has always been a party animal and Sabrina was fed up with his antics. She is soaring in the charts and is putting herself first as she gears up for her tour next month.”
Sabrina released the single Please Please Please in June, which sees her sing about a boyfriend damaging her reputation.
Who starred in BBC crime drama Peaky Blinders?
Popular BBC crime drama Peaky Blinders aired from 2013 to 2022. The show followed a fictional crime gang operating in Birmingham in the aftermath of the First World War. With a movie adaptation on the way, here is a reminder of some of the biggest stars who appeared in Peaky Blinders.
Cillian Murphy: The Irish-born actor played gang leader Tommy Shelby for the show’s entire run. Cillian is also known for his film collaborations with Christopher Nolan, including winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Oppenheimer. His other collaborations with Nolan include portraying DC Comics villain Scarecrow in Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and a supporting role in Inception.
Helen McCrory: Helen starred as Polly Gray for the first five series of Peaky Blinders. Her film roles include franchise appearances in Harry Potter and James Bond, as well as playing Cherie Blair in three films. Helen sadly passed away in April 2021, aged 52, of breast cancer. She had been married to actor Damian Lewis from 2007 until her death.
Sam Neill: New Zealand actor Sam starred in the first two series as Chester Campbell, an Ulster Protestant policeman drafted into Belfast. On the big screen, Sam is known for his role as Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, as well as two of the film’s sequels. His varied television credits include The Tudors, The Simpsons, Alcatraz and Rick and Morty.
Tom Hardy: Tom appeared as Alfie Solomons, a Jewish gang leader in Camden Town in series two through six. He has appeared in films including Warrior, The Dark Knight Rises, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Legend and Venom. Tom also worked with Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight on the eight-part drama Taboo, in which he played the lead role of James Keziah Delaney.
Joe Cole: Joe starred in the first four series of Peaky Blinders, playing the role of John Shelby. He starred alongside his real-life brother, Finn, who plays Michael Gray. Since leaving Peaky Blinders, Joe has gone on to play Sean Wallace in Sky Atlantic series Gangs of London.
Benjamin Zephaniah: Late poet and writer Benjamin passed away in December 2023. He starred starred as Jeremiah ‘Jimmy’ Jesus throughout the run of Peaky Blinders.
Adrien Brody: Adrien is the youngest actor to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, being 29 at the time. He appeared in series four of Peaky Blinders as Luca Changretta, a New York mafioso.
Paddy Considine: House of the Dragon star Paddy appeared in series three as Father John Hughes, a priest working with the anti-communist Section D in the British Government.
Stephen Graham: Lancashire-born actor Stephen appeared as Hayden Stagg, union convenor for the workers at the Liverpool docks.
Barry stars alongside Sabrina in the music video, which depicts him as a convict behind bars.
In the song, Sabrina sings: “Please, please, please don’t bring me to tears when I just did my makeup so nice. Heartbreak is one thing, my ego’s another. I beg you, don’t embarrass me, motherf***er. Please, please, please.”
Appearing to make reference to Barry’s party lifestyle, she adds: “Whatever devil’s inside you don’t let him out tonight.
“I tell them it’s just your culture and everyone rolls their eyes. Yeah I know.”
The Sun on Sunday revealed in January that Barry had told his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child that he planned to go official with Sabrina.
Barry split from dental nurse Alyson Kierans last July after also rowing about his partying and flirting with another woman.
The couple share two-year-old son Brando.
However, Sabrina has showed that she is moving on after she admitted that “the shortest relationships affected her most.”
And her music video for her single Taste — in which she is seen snogging Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega – is rumoured to be about her situationship with Shawn Mendes.
The lyrics: “Five feet to be exact. You’re wonderin’ why half his clothes went missin’. My body’s where they’re at,” is about Shawn and him getting back together with his ex Camila Cabello.
Shawn and Camila broke up in November 2021 and go back together in April 2023.
In that time, Shawn and Sabrina briefly saw each other.
The lyrics in Sabrina’s song Taste continue to say: “I heard you’re back together and if that’s true, you’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you.
“If you want forever, I bet you do. Just know you’ll taste me too.”
Fans were shocked to learn that most of her songs on her album Short N’ Sweet are about her brief and causal relationship with Shawn rather than her long-term boyfriend Barry.
