Bengaluru: Earlier praised for its state-of-the-art, airport-like infrastructure, Sir M Visvesvaraya (SMVT) railway terminal in Bengaluru is now facing online backlash and drawing attention for less favorable reasons. Images have gone viral on the internet, showcasing deteriorating conditions at India’s first fully air-conditioned railway station. The viral photos feature station premises marred by gutka stains and other litter. The clip circulating on the internet like wildfire presents a starkly different reality. The station can be seen littered with spit and garbage, a sharp contrast to its intended grandeur, prompting a debate online.

Notably, the terminal located in silicon city and made with a cost of Rs 314 crore, was inaugurated in 2021. The city welcomed the terminal and celebrated its inauguration as a symbol of progress and modernity.

The video soon went viral and prompted netizens to express their thoughts in the comment section, with some users blaming the passengers for the litter and criticising them for their lack of civic sense.

• “We don’t deserve any development,” the second users expressed.
• “This should be fined, and that too heavy fines should be imposed on the culprits, disgusting,” a third user commented.
• “This is so sad,” said another user.

However, other users slammed the state government for failing to maintain the infrastructure.
