Man riding electric scooter dies in SE Kansas crash

INDEPENDENCE (KSNT) - On Thursday, an 18-year-old man from Independence died after being struck by a pickup truck while riding an electric scooter.

At 7:30 a.m., the 18-year-old was driving west on Chestnut Street in Independence. A 39-year-old man was turning his Chevy Silverado north onto Pennsylvania Street from Chestnut. The 18-year-old failed to yield to the Chevy and was hit in the intersection, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) crash log.

The 18-year-old's next of kin was notified by hospital staff. He wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the KHP.
