Paris Paralympics 2024: Manish Narwal Secures Silver In Men’s 10m Air Pistol
New Delhi: Manish Narwal secured a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Friday (August 30), adding to India’s impressive medal tally. With this achievement, Manish became only the sixth Indian athlete in history to win multiple medals at the Summer Paralympic Games, cementing his place among India’s most accomplished Paralympians.
Manish Narwal, 23-year-old won the silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 final at Chateauroux with a total of 234.9 points. Earlier, Avani Lekhara had taken gold and Mona Agarwal bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle event as India started its medal journey at the 17th Summer Paralympic Games on Friday.
Jeongdu Jo took the gold of South Korea with a high score of 237.4, while China’s Chao Yang won bronze as Manish Narwal recovered from a poor start-shooting 8.8 on his first-to end up with silver in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event.
In the final shoot-off for gold, Manish Narwal attempted a critical 8.9, but South Korea’s Jeongdu Jo sent the crowd into tizzy with a perfect 10.8 to surge ahead. Manish, however, finished strong, scoring 9.9 in his last attempt against Jeongdu’s 8.8, but since the Indian shooter began poorly, the silver medal was given out for his overall effort.
Manish Narwal’s silver took Team India into the top 10 of the medal standings at the Paris Paralympics 2024. India leaped ahead of countries like Japan and South Korea to take the ninth spot in the medal tally with a genuine hope of securing a historic top-10 finish at the Games.
