On Thursday, Leah Remini and her husband, performer and restaurateur Angelo Pagán, announced in a joint Instagram post that they’re getting divorced after more than two decades of marriage.
“As hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook,” the couple wrote, adding that they’re “proud of how we have worked through this together” and plan to be “together still in many ways, and apart in some new ones.”
Remini and Pagán met in 1996 when he was singing at a Cuban club in L.A. They got married in 2003 and welcomed a daughter, Sofia Bella, the following year — Pagán also has three sons from a previous relationship. Pagán, who reportedly joined the Church of Scientology when he and Remini started dating, parted ways with the church alongside her and her mother in 2013 and has been an outspoken supporter of his wife’s ongoing criticism of Scientology.
During their relationship, Pagán appeared on Remini’s show The King of Queens a handful of times, and he was heavily featured on reality shows that peered into Remini’s home life, including VH1’s specials about her wedding and the birth of their daughter in 2003 and 2004, respectively, and later in 2014, when the duo launched a TLC show about their home life called Leah Remini: It’s All Relative that ran for two seasons.
Referencing their TV exposure, Remini and Pagán wrote, “We would love for everyone to have more access to different kinds of relationship stories and not feel so isolated in navigating the changes that millions of couples make every year.” They plan to “keep sharing snippets of our lives as we navigate this new chapter.”
