Suspect arrested for more than 30 retail thefts in Hazel Dell
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man has been arrested on dozens of retail theft charges after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise in Hazel Dell over the last year.
According to the Clark County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrested 25-year-old Christopher Blancas on Tuesday after he was identified as the suspect in more than 30 retail theft incidents dating back to June 2023.
Authorities say that during the thefts, Blancas wore a face mask and used tools to cut off anti-theft devices. He would then flee the scene when confronted by store employees.
When a CCSO deputy was patrolling near the Hazel Dell Safeway, officials said he recognized Blancas as the suspected thief and took him in to custody. Authorities said Blancas then admitted to committing the thefts.
He is now facing charges of organized retail theft, retail theft with special circumstances and third-degree theft.
