TFD releases cause of large Monday morning fire

TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) released information regarding the large fire that sent plumes of smoke into the air on Monday morning.

According to the TFD, crews were called to respond to a fire in the area of the 21st Street bridge near Lakewood. Crews found a large fire with black plumes of smoke coming from a pile of tires. The TFD determined the fire was intentionally set.

A Topeka resident told 27 News the smoke could be seen from a long distance.

An investigation into the fire is currently ongoing, according to the TFD.
