Mexico's extra-inning heroics lead to 6-4 triumph against Philippines

Mexico’s WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group C game against the Philippines featured a dramatic comeback and clutch performances, as Mexico emerged with a 6-4 victory after nine innings at The Village in Dallas, United States, on Friday.

The Philippines took the lead early, with Mylia Perez scoring on a double by Rhea Manalo in the third inning. Mexico responded in the fourth with an RBI single by Danna Viera, tying the game at 1-1.

Both teams traded leads in a tense sixth inning. Mexico went ahead 3-1 after Ana Oquita and Karina Ibarra scored, but the Philippines quickly answered with a three-run rally, taking a 4-3 lead. Erica Arnaiz delivered a two-RBI single to put the Philippines back on top.

Down to their last out in the seventh inning, Mexico tied the game when Aryana Salazar scored on a clutch single by Karina Rodriguez, sending the game to extra innings.

In the ninth inning, Mexico capitalised on a defensive error, scoring two runs on a sac fly by Izel Avalos and a single by Ana Paula Oquita, taking a 6-4 lead. Jenny Robledo then shut down the Philippines in the bottom of the inning, sealing the hard-fought victory for Mexico.
