Minor League Recap: Brito Homers, Delivers Walk-Off Single
Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Friday, September 6, 2024
Columbus Clippers 3, Durham Bulls 2
Box Score · Clippers improve to 70-63
Juan Brito has been making a very valid case to get some time with the Guardians’ big league club recently, and last night was no different. Brito was the main culprit for the Bulls’ demise Thursday, as he went 2-4 with a walk and two RBI, one coming from a solo shot and the other being the walk-off single he delivered in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Big night for Brito!#Guardians 22yr old switch-hitting (INF/OF) prospect Juan Brito reached base 3x tonight (2-4 R HR 2RBI BB) for Columbus that included his 19th HR of the season a solo shot in the 3rd inning and a walk-off winning base hit in the 10th against Durham!

Ryan Webb was on the bump Thursday, and he had a solid night. Webb logged five innings of one-run baseball on five hits and three walks. He ended the night with six K’s as well. The Clips exhausted a great majority of their bullpen, but they maintained a firm grip on the Bulls’ lineup, never letting them get ahead.
#Guardians 24yr old RHP relief prospect Franco Aleman tossed a scoreless inning of work against Durham tonight for Columbus.

Akron RubberDucks 6, Richmond Flying Squirrels 7
Box Score · RubberDucks fall to 76-53
Jorge Burgos got a hold of one last night for a solo bomb, and Dayan Frias had himself a great all around night. Frias went 1-2 with two RBI, two walks and he stole home!
#Guardians 22yr old OF prospect Jorge Burgos reached base 2x tonight (1-4 2R HR RBI BB) for Akron at Richmond including his 17th HR of the season that tied the game in the 8th inning.

It wasn’t the best start for Austin Peterson last night, however. He gave up five earned runs on eight hits and three walks during his four innings of work. The bullpen was able to handle things from there, but they ended up giving up a walk-off single to Richmond’s Victor Bericoto. On the bright side, Alaska Abney is continuing to go on his torrential run of 20+ scoreless innings!
The streak continues...#Guardians 24yr old RHP relief prospect Alaska Abney extended his scoreless innings streak to 20.2 innings striking out a pair of Richmond batters over 1.1 innings of work for Akron.

Lake County Captains 3, Peoria Chiefs 8
Box Score · Captains fall to 75-52
The Captains were able to generate a bit of traffic on the basepaths, but they couldn’t seem to execute on their chances. The Caps went a total 2-7 with runners in scoring position, with only Wuilfredo Antunez (2) and Ralphy Velazquez (1) logging RBI for the squad.
Even if the Captains’ offense was working Thursday, one fact remains and that is that the Chiefs poured on the runs non-stop in the third inning. Alonzo Richardson was treading shallow waters his whole start and finally caved in the third, giving up six earned runs. From that inning on, it seemed like a very formidable task to come back from a deficit that large.
Lynchburg Hillcats 1, Fredericksburg Nationals 4
Box Score · Hillcats fall to 65-61
Well, there was not much to write home about the Hillcats’ offense Thursday, as they only accrued a run on two hits and a walk. The offense was just dead last night, but props to Luis Merejo and Christian Knapczyk for preventing a no-hitter with their two respective hits!
Kyle Scott gave up a total of three runs, but only one of them was earned. Scott threw four surprisingly efficient innings, considering how many runs he gave up during that start. He fanned seven batters and only gave up four hits and a walk.
