PDP president Mehbooba Mufti stated that the National Conference allied with Congress in the 1980s only after her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, made Congress a viable option in Jammu and Kashmir. She criticised the current NC-Congress alliance for the 2024 elections as a power-sharing pact rather than one based on principles.
