14-year-old shot, killed at Midwest City park
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) – Midwest City police said a 14-year-old boy was killed during a shooting at Tom Poore Park on Sunday evening. Neighbors who live around the park, located near Northeast 10th and Midwest Blvd, said they were startled by the sound of at least four gunshots.
"I just heard the gunshots and went running to the backyard," said one neighbor.
One family who spoke to KFOR said the shooting happened around 7:30 p.m., the same time as their nightly walk through the park.
"I remember I was looking at my husband. I was like, what if we were walking out there when that happened?” said one neighbor. “So definitely scary."
Police said officers quickly arrived at the scene after several 911 callers said they heard gunshots. Officers attempted to save the teenager’s life, using CPR. The boy was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
One witness reportedly told police she saw a person run up to the teenager and took something from his pocket before running away.
Another witness said she saw a blue or gray Chevy car park near her house. She said she saw three people get out of the vehicle and walk over a bridge, towards the teen, and minutes later gunfire rang out.
Multiple witnesses told police one of the suspects was also shot during the argument.
"They (police) told me that somebody showed up at the hospital that was shot too but I haven't heard anything else," said one neighbor.
Midwest City police have kept details about what happened and suspect information quiet. They have not confirmed any arrests.
Monday morning, investigators were back at the scene trying to piece together information. Neighbors said they wanted answers as to why a deadly shooting happened so close to home.
"I'm very concerned for everybody's safety," said a neighbor.
