T Natarajan, a left-arm bowler who was a member of the Indian team during their historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory in 2020–21, has given an explanation for his four-year absence from the first-class lineup.
The brief form of Natarajan’s achievements is what made him famous. He has been a vital member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad, helping the team take wickets when needed. He has claimed 19 wickets in the 2024 edition of the competition.
The southpaw told the Times of India that while he still wants to play the longest format, he is completely avoiding it in order to stay rested and prepared because of workload concerns.
“I haven’t played red-ball cricket (first-class matches) in almost four years.” I don’t like playing red-ball cricket; it’s just that I feel like it adds to my burden. I’m staying away from red-ball cricket right now,” he said.
“I’m experiencing knee problems when I work a lot. Thus, I’ve given up playing,” he continued.
The pacer believes that the red-ball format is better, and he will work to strengthen himself physically and mentally so that his body can withstand the strain that the longer format may put on a player.
“I prefer playing red-ball cricket over white-ball cricket.” I have a great time playing red-ball cricket every time. In a few years, if all goes well, I’ll play. I could be able to come back if I train hard for the next two years. However, at the moment, all he is considering is white-ball cricket,” he said.
Natarajan has not been involved with Team India or international cricket since his last appearance in an ODI against England in March 2021. In the near future, he aims to overcome his injury concerns and get called up to the Indian squad based on his performance.
