McDowell shines as USA shut out Canada to reach Finals 2025

USA claimed a 7-0 win over Canada at The Village in Dallas, USA, on Monday, advancing to the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2025. With Ella McDowell leading the charge, USA capitalised on Canadian errors and sealed the shutout victory in the WBSC U-18 Women's Softball World Cup Group C Repechage game.

In the third inning, USA loaded the bases with no outs, but Canada’s Avery Tucker made two brilliant defensive plays, throwing out Harlie Chism and Townsen Thomas at home. Despite Tucker’s efforts, McDowell broke through with an RBI single to right field, giving USA a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Canada’s defence faltered, committing three errors that allowed USA to extend their lead. USA scored five runs on just three hits, with McDowell again playing a crucial role in the rally, increasing the lead to 6-0.

The game ended in the bottom of the sixth inning when Elsa Morrison hit a single up the middle, scoring Thomas and securing the 7-0 win for USA.

McDowell’s key offensive plays and USA’s ability to capitalise on Canada’s mistakes ensured their progression to the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2025, while Canada will now compete in the Repechage final.
