Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler opened up about their romantic chemistry as they prepare to hit the stage for a new Broadway production of Romeo & Juliet.
The 20-year-old Heartstopper actor and the 23-year-old Snow White actress will carry the production as the star-crossed titular lovers.

“It was scary, when we first met,” Kit told the New York Times. “When you’re meeting a romantic interest, you have to keep your fingers crossed because you just can’t fake it. And when you do the greatest love story of all time — ”
Rachel chimed in, agreeing, “We should probably have chemistry.”
Thankfully, it all worked out!
“On first meeting, I was like, oh, we’ll be fine,” she revealed adding that it was nice that they could “joke” together. “If I can’t joke with you, how are we going to fall in love every night to the point that makes us suicidal?”
Kit agreed: “It’s really important that the two of us have trust and intimacy,” he said. “It’s nice that we have a level of safety.”
Of course, both stars have a proven track record for good romantic chemistry with acting partners.
Joe Locke, who plays Kit‘s love interest in Heartstopper, said that he “[makes] everything so easy.”
“It’s hard not to fall in love with him,” he gushed, adding that he was talking about a strong friendship, not romantic love.
Rachel‘s costar Tom Blyth shared similar thoughts.
“It was very easy for us to portray love,” he said. “Rachel has an ingénue thing about her, but she’s not just an ingénue. She’s wise beyond her years.”
Previews for Romeo & Juliet begin on September 26 with opening night on October 24. We recently got our first photos from rehearsals!
