Afghan citizen executed in Iran’s Chezel Hesar prison, Human Rights Group reports
The Iranian Human Rights Organization reported on Thursday that two prisoners, including an Afghan national, were executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj for drug-related crimes.
According to the organization, Abdulrahman Tajik, one of the prisoners, was executed on Wednesday, September 11.
The other executed prisoner was identified as Sajjad Bandegi, a 35-year-old from Kermanshah, who had been arrested 10 years ago and sentenced to death.
The organization did not provide further details about the Afghan prisoner.
The plight of Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan has worsened amid Afghanistan’s ongoing humanitarian crisis, with many facing forced deportations and harsh conditions in host countries.
Afghan refugees, particularly in Iran, are vulnerable to severe punishments, as seen in recent drug-related executions. This situation highlights their increasing risks while dealing with dire circumstances abroad and a deteriorating situation at home.
