Lust, the book, uncovers a web of secret encounters on hospital grounds, where overworked doctors, pharmacists, and nurses steal moments of passion during their gruelling shifts.
Written by a pharmacist, the story is inspired by real events from her own life and those of her colleagues, capturing their experiences both on and off duty at a UK hospital.
The author, who writes under the pen-name Gigi Kaur, catalogues trysts with fellow medics in staff rooms, lifts and hotel rooms as they endure an emotional pressure cooker during the early years of her career.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun from her home in London, Gigi, 32, says: “A lot of the time junior doctors live on the premises – which blurs the lines between work and personal life.
With such exhausting shifts, it’s easy to lose track of where one ends and the other begins.
“The hospital seems like home. I’ve witnessed doctors having sex in the lift and heard stories of them sneaking off to storage rooms and doctors’ restrooms to get it on.”
Hospital table romp
Gigi, who’s in a relationship, tells how a doctor and a pharmacist had sex on a table in a hospital pharmacy where she used to work.
“It was quick and passionate,” she continues. “They couldn’t resist their chemistry and seized the moment after hours. Sex is rampant in the NHS – when you’re in a high-pressure job, you need an outlet.
“Despite its clinical appearance, the hospital becomes a playground for those seeking both excitement and escape.
“After reading my book, you may never see doctors and nurses the same way again.”
Gigi reveals that while it was common for NHS staff to indulge in intimate encounters on hospital premises, they made it a point to avoid the hospital beds.
“But you wouldn’t want to get frisky in a hospital bed,” she laughs. “The germs alone would make it a turn-off! Not sure what that says about hospitals’ cleanliness! But storage rooms and doctors’ restrooms? That’s where the real action happens.”

Gigi describes surgeons as “Type A personalities” – a term for individuals who exhibit high levels of competitiveness, ambition, and urgency.
These traits make them thrive on risky, adrenaline-fuelled experiences, including their approach to sex.
“The surgeons are the top of the pecking order,” she explains. “They face life-and-death situations daily, which fuels their egos and can spill over into their personal lives.
“It’s not unusual for them to be involved with multiple hospital staff simultaneously.”

“There’s a lot of sexual relationships that go on in a hospital,” Gigi reveals. “It’s not just about the pharmacist-doctor relationships, it’s also about how these encounters often blur the boundaries between work and personal life.”
Valentine’s Day tears
The novel candidly explores the intricate relationships among NHS staff and the issues these dynamics can create on the wards.
“I remember one Valentine’s Day when a beautiful bunch of roses were delivered to the pharmacy department,” she laughs. “Everyone assumed the flowers were for them because they were all romantically involved with a hospital doctor!
“I thought there was going to be a fight over the flowers but luckily someone found the card and cleared up the confusion before the flowers were ripped apart.
“he girl who realised the flowers weren’t hers stormed off… probably to find her doctor boyfriend and give him an earful!”

Gigi’s novel also tackles the darker side of hospital life, including unwanted advances and the pervasive bullying culture.
Jaia endures body shaming from her manager, who criticises her for wearing tight-fitting clothes and makeup – an experience Gigi reveals she faced throughout her career.
The manager’s judgmental attitude reflects a broader issue within the NHS, where young, attractive women often face discrimination.
“Jaia is young, bubbly, and wants to wear makeup and stylish clothes,” Gigi says. “But she faces criticism for being ‘too sexy’ or not looking professional enough.

Gigi also highlights the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. In one instance, Jaia finds herself in an unwanted situation with her deputy chief pharmacist. This experience is a chilling reminder of the real-life struggles many women face, where senior figures abuse their power and authority.
“It’s not just Jaia’s story,” Gigi emphasises. “It happens everywhere in the NHS. There are countless cases where senior staff take advantage of their positions, and many women feel too intimidated to report it. Even when they do, they face an uphill battle against powerful figures who often escape accountability.”
Surgeon signed name on organs
In her novel, Jaia’s romantic entanglements include a passionate fling with a French surgeon who stays in hospital accommodation.
Their romance is intense and exciting, offering a brief escape from the rigours of hospital life. Gigi portrays this relationship with vivid detail, showcasing the allure of a sophisticated and cultured lover who brings a touch of romance to Jaia’s hectic world.
“He’s older, passionate, and has that irresistible alpha male charm,” Gigi describes. “When you’re in a casual relationship, it’s all about diving in without worrying about the consequences. But when things get serious, the stress of marriage and commitments can dampen the excitement.”
The novel provides a stark contrast between the high-risk, adrenaline-fueled personalities of surgeons and the often naive, youthful demeanour of junior staff.
Surgeons, with their god-like egos and risk-taking behaviours, often bring their boldness into their personal lives.
“There was a notorious case where a surgeon signed his name on the organs he operated on,” Gigi reveals. “This incident perfectly illustrates how their god-like attitudes spill over into their personal lives. Many of them were having affairs, believing they were untouchable.”
Gigi also delves into the challenges she faced as a South Asian woman exploring her sexual identity.
“Navigating romance as a South Asian is particularly tough,” she explains. “While finding love is challenging for anyone, being Indian adds another layer of difficulty. There’s often pressure to marry within your own religion or even caste, which can be deeply ingrained.
“In the Western world, where the idea of choosing who you love is celebrated, this can create a conflict, pushing you to explore your desires in secrecy.
“This theme is prominent in the book and becomes even more central in the sequel, where Jaia begins to push boundaries and attend sex parties.”
