Erik ten Hag drops huge injury update on six United stars after 3-0 win vs Southampton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an injury update on six players following the 3-0 Premier League win over Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils picked up three valuable points from their trip to St Mary’s. Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho found the back of the net.

In the same game, there were plenty of injury concerns. Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez were forced off the field while De Ligt was substituted too.

Speaking after the victory, Ten Hag said that De Ligt was taken off due to cramp, but Mazraoui and Martinez will need to be assessed over the next 24 hours.

He told Manutd.com: “It looks like [cramp] yes [on De Ligt]. Hopefully it’s nothing serious [on Mazraoui and Martinez], we have to assess it today, or tomorrow and then we can see.”

The Dutch tactician added that Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw won’t be available for the Carabao Cup third round tie versus Barnsley at Old Trafford.

He added: “We need everyone and hopefully players are returning. It will not be the case for the next game, but hopefully in the next weeks they [Hojlund, Mount and Shaw] will return to the squad.”

United have been hampered by numerous defensive injury concerns over the last 18 months. Hopefully, Martinez and Mazraoui have only picked up minor knocks.

The Red Devils are clear favourites to beat Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. It remains to be seen whether the manager makes wholesale changes to the XI.

The likes of Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Casemiro and Garnacho could be involved from the off, having come on as substitutes in the recent victory on the South Coast.

Manuel Ugarte could be handed his full United debut too after a good cameo off the bench. It would be an ideal preparation for him to start the next league fixture.

United face a tricky challenge against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
