NYPD officer shot near Brooklyn subway station: sources
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — An NYPD officer was shot at the Sutter Avenue subway station in Brooklyn on Sunday, according to police sources.
Police officers approached a man for fare evasion, and the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife, according to sources. The situation escalated, and shots were fired. It is unclear who shot the police officer, sources said.
The condition of the officer was not immediately known.
The shooting disrupted service on the L line.
“L train service is disrupted in Brooklyn,” the MTA said on X. “L service is bypassing Sutter Ave. in both directions. NYPD is conducting an investigation at Sutter Ave.”
The NYPD urged people to avoid the area of Van Sinderen Avenue and Sutter Avenue.
“Due to a police investigation, avoid the vicinity of Van Sinderen Avenue & Sutter Avenue in Brooklyn. Expect a police presence & traffic delays in the surrounding area,” police said.
