Four hospitalized in Jefferson County school bus crash
JEFFERSON COUNTY (KSNT) - Several people, including children, were hospitalized Monday morning in a school bus crash in Jefferson County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) issued a crash log for the incident which occurred around 7:15 a.m. on Sept. 16 on K-92 just east of where it passes McCarter Drive. An S80 Volvo was traveling on K-92 while the school bus was at a stop picking up passengers.
The Volvo driver was heading up a hill and, due to sun being in his eyes, did not see the school bus and rear-ended it. The driver of the Volvo and three children on the bus were injured in the crash.
The driver of the Volvo, a 15-year-old from Ozawkie, was taken to a Topeka hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The three children wounded in the crash were also taken to nearby medical centers for treatment of less severe injuries. The bus was carrying 19 children between the ages of three and 17.
