Kidnapping suspect accused in shooting on Ohio State West Campus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Ohio State police are looking for a kidnapping suspect, now being separately accused in a Monday night shooting on the university's campus.

According to dispatchers, the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Olentangy River Road and John H. Herrick Drive, near the university's College of Veterinary Medicine. The Ohio State University Police Division said a man, who is not a student or staff member, flagged down a bus at the intersection and told the driver he had been shot.

The unhoused victim told police he got in an altercation with another unhoused man named Richard James Patridge. Columbus police have been searching for the 31-year-old since Sept. 4, after he was accused of kidnapping a woman outside of Bexley. The suspect has multiple active felony warrants, not including possible charges from the shooting, and was previously seen riding a motorcycle.

OSU police set up a perimeter around the scene of the shooting and are actively looking for Patridge. They warned the public to lock doors and windows to their homes, and to walk with friends or coworkers and be aware of surroundings. The division asked anyone who spots the suspect to call 911, and to avoid confronting him.

Police dispatchers confirmed medical crews took the shooting victim to a local hospital in serious condition. Ohio State police confirmed he had stabilized as of 10:20 p.m.
