Man arrested for theft and drug possession
A 42-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning in Paphos after a police chase, during which authorities found stolen property valued at €3,510 in his possession, according to Paphos police spokesperson Michalis Nicolaou.
Nicolaou said the suspect is under investigation for theft from a locked box, illegal possession of property and burglary tools, resisting lawful arrest, illegal possession of drugs, and carrying a knife.
The alleged crimes took place between May 19 and July 7, 2024, in the Paphos district. On July 8, a 25-year-old man reported the theft of electric construction tools valued at €3,510 from a construction site in the Yeroskipou area.
An abandoned vehicle found at the scene, registered to the 42-year-old, contained electric tools believed to have been stolen.
An arrest warrant was issued for the 42-year-old for theft from a locked box, illegal possession of property, and possession of burglary tools found in the vehicle.
According to Nicolaou, police located the suspect’s vehicle on Evagorou street in Paphos at around 1am on Tuesday following a tip.
The driver attempted to flee but crashed into a tree, after which he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. He was apprehended after a brief chase and resisted arrest but was ultimately detained.
A search of the suspect uncovered 1.5 grams of a substance resembling heroin, 1.4 grams of a substance resembling methamphetamine, two illegal knives, and burglary tools. The suspect also tested positive for drugs. The investigation is ongoing.
