Meet India’s richest cricketer with assets worth Rs 20,000 crore, he is NOT MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar
A couple of weeks back it was reported that former India captain Virat Kohli was India’s biggest tax paying sportsperson, having paid Rs 66 crore last year. But Kohli’s net worth and earning pale in comparison to this former cricketer who has assets worth more than Rs 20,000 crore.
Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has net worth of $150 million, MS Dhoni has net worth of $110 million but the cricketer in question inherited property worth over $4.1 billion. The cricketer we are talking about is Samarjitsinh Gaekwad from the royal family of Baroda, who owns one of the biggest private mansions in the world – Laxmi Vilas Palace.
Samarjitsinh Ranjitsinh Gaekwad was born on April 25, 1967 to the royals Ranjitsinh Pratapsinh Gaekwad and Shubhanginiraje. He was a former first-class cricketer from Baroda and cricket administrator as well.
Samarjitsinh and his uncle Sangramsinh Gaekwad resolved a bitter inheritance battle in 2013 and the ex-cricketer took ownership of Laxmi Vilas Palace. Samarjitsinh Gaekwad received inheritance money which tallied more than Rs 20,000 crores.
On the cricket field, Samarjitsinh was a top-order batter and played first-class cricket between 1987 and 1989 for Baroda. He turned out for Baroda in six first-class matches in the Ranji Trophy tournament and went on to become the president of Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) as well.
Samarjitsinh is married to Radhikaraje, a member of the Wankaner State royal family, since 2022. Apart from the Laxmi Vilas Palace, he is also in charge of the temples trust, which includes 17 temples in Gujarat and Varanasi. He joined the BJP in 2014, but Samarjitsinh has not participated in active politics since 2017.
