In Test cricket, Rohit ranks second on the list among Indian players. He has smashed 84 sixes so far from 59 Test matches. The 37-year-old needs just eight sixes to surpass Virender Sehwag’s record of most sixes in Test cricket among Indian batters. Sehwag finished his Test career with 91 sixes from 104 matches.
Currently, Ben Stokes holds the record for sixes in Test cricket with 131 in 105 matches. The second in the list is Brendon McCullum who hit 107 sixes in 101 tests and Australian great Adam Gilchrist with 100 sixes in 96 matches.
Along with Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle and Jacques Kallis are just a couple of sixes away from 100 sixes in Test cricket. Gayle is still not technically retired; however, he last played a Test way back in 2014 after playing 103 Tests. Kallis of South Africa belted 97 sixes in 166 Test matches.
Rohit is currently getting ready to lead India against Bangladesh for a two-match Test series at home. The first Test will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 to September 23. The second Test will be held at Green Park in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1. Bangladesh will go into the series high on confidence, having registered a historic 2-0 Test series victory in Pakistan.
Rohit Sharma has been phenomenal in the ongoing WTC cycle, scoring 700 runs in nine matches at an average of 46.66, including three centuries and three half-centuries, and he would want to carry on in the same form.
