Vance: Big difference between conservatives and liberals — no one has tried to kill Harris

Donald Trump's running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), on Monday said there's a "big difference" between Republicans and Democrats: "No one has tried to kill Kamala Harris."

Vance's comment came during a speech he gave at a Georgia Faith & Freedom Coalition dinner in Atlanta, according to CNN.

At the dinner, Vance praised Trump over his response to a second plot to assassinate him, telling audience members he is "fazed by nothing" and is someone who was "telling jokes afterwards."

"I think I was without a question more bothered by it than he was — and I was in Cincinnati, Ohio, 100 miles from where this went down" Vance quipped.

Vance called for reducing what he called "ridiculous and inflammatory rhetoric coming from too many corners of our politics" — specifically attacks that Trump is a "fascist" and that if elected, he would bring the "end of American democracy."

Trump, notably, called Vice President Kamala Harris a Marxist-communist during an interview on X Spaces later Monday night.

"If you tell the American people that this person is the end of democracy, if you tell the American people that this person needs to be eliminated, most of them, thank God, are going to ignore you. But some crazy person is going to take matters into their own hands and actually listen to the crazy rhetoric that you're putting out there," said Vance.

The Republican vice presidential nominee appeared to be referencing a comment made last year by Democratic New York Rep. Dan Goldman, who apologized for telling MSNBC in an interview last year that Trump “has to be eliminated.”

Vance then turned to a common criticism of the media and political parties of a "both sides problem" and suggested there's a key difference between conservatives and liberals: "No one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months. And two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last couple of months. I'd say that's pretty strong evidence left needs to tone down the rhetoric and needs to cut this crap out. Somebody is going to get hurt by it. And it's going to destroy this country."

Vance — who has faced a torrent of backlash over his derisive comments toward "childless cat ladies" and promotion of a racist conspiracy theory that Haitian migrants are abducting and eating peoples' pets — then vowed to do his part to tone down the rhetoric.

In doing so, he said that people who in particular need to do so are those calling for Trump to be "eliminated."

"You guys need to cut it out. Or somebody is going to get hurt," he said.
