Burbank Parks and Recreation Department unveiled its huge and colorful mural by local artist Ricardo Cerezo titled, “A Community in Action,” in the gym at the McCambridge Recreation Center on Monday, Sept. 16.

The mural marks the 42nd city-owned public art installation, and the 133rd artwork created under the city’s popular “Art in Public Places” program. Cerezo, a local artist, is known for his colorful utility boxes in Los Angeles County, the Bay Area and Burbank.

Cerezo is also known for his vivid colors, intricate patterns, and abstract forms to create images that are popular with broad audiences. He completed a large-scale mural project at the University of Panama.

Under the Burbank program, new development projects allocate a percentage of construction costs to qualified on-site public art, or they contribute to the Art in Public Places fund.

The new mural is made up of silhouettes that capture activities at the McCambridge Recreation Center and  activities at the city’s parks. According to officials, each silhouette represents Burbank’s diverse community  shown against the mural’s lively backdrop.
