Cameras allowed in court for hearing against former Marion police chief in newspaper raid

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Cameras will be allowed in court during a hearing involving former Marion Police Chief Gideon Cody, charged with raiding the Marion County Record last year. Cody is facing charges related to interfering with the judicial process in the case

On Monday, a district court judge ruled in favor of several media organizations, including KSN News. They are allowing one television camera, two still cameras, and an audio recording device.

Cody asked the judge to deny cameras, saying they could jeopardize his right to a fair trial by increasing publicity.

Cody now lives in Hawaii. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Oct. 7, to which the request for media access would apply.
