Arrest made in Junction City school threat

0

JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) - Police arrested a juvenile following alleged threats to USD 475.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the Junction City Police Department (JCPD) learned of threats made on TikTok against the Junction City Middle School. According to the police department, the threats were made as part of a state-wide trend. Later they deemed the threat unfounded.

On Friday, Sept. 13, the JCPD learned of other social media activity that included a list of names and staff from USD 475 that was posted on Snapchat. After an investigation that went on throughout the weekend, police identified a juvenile who they believed to be responsible for the post, according to the JCPD.

The police arrested the juvenile on charges of aggravated criminal threat, a level 5 felony and was later released to their parents.

"The investigation remains ongoing, with detectives planning additional interviews in the coming days and weeks," the JCPD wrote in a press release. "Due to the age of the individuals involved and the active nature of the investigation, no names or further information will be released at this time."

The JCPD said that based on their findings the threat of violence wasn't believed to be credible.
