Protest Wednesday against doing business with Israel

0

A pro-Palestine protest is set to take place on Wednesday outside a Doing Business with Israel summit, it was announced on Tuesday.

“In three weeks, one full year of genocide will be marked, with over 40,000 Palestinians dead and no end in sight,” organisers United for Palestine said.

They questioned why the Republic of Cyprus continues “to remain in collaboration with Israel.”

Police spokesman Christos Andreou told the Cyprus Mail the protest would be policed.

United for Palestine underlined the protest is strictly non-violent and peaceful with an aim “to challenge the government to either stop being complicit by ending all trade, all business and all military collaborations.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Palestinian embassy called on Cyprus to vote in favour of the draft resolution at the UN General Assembly on the implementation of the opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“The resolution aims to implement the ICJ advisory opinion of July 2024 on the illegality of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories and apartheid under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.”
