Could Duke-UConn Be A Series?
An interesting development to say the least.
Danny Hurley has done a terrific job at UConn, with back-to-back titles and a level of dominance that college basketball hasn’t seen for a long time. It’s particularly impressive given the changes in the game with early entry to the NBA, NIL and the new transfer rules.
He’s risen to the top but there’s one thing he hasn't been able to conquer yet, and that’s Duke.
That probably has a special resonance for him, because his brother Bobby became a legend at Duke and he thoroughly overshadowed Danny when he was at Seton Hall. Toss in another legend in his father Bob, perhaps the greatest high school coach in history (Morgan Wooten may be his only rival) and you can see why Danny has, at times, been insecure.
He has become a legend himself and did so emphatically, so you’d think he has little left to be insecure about.
However, Duke has been on his mind a lot. He’s mentioned several times that UConn would like to schedule Duke but the Blue Devils haven’t been willing.
That may be changing.
Jon Scheyer told Jon Rothstein that he’s open to a series with UConn, which would be great.
One of the ways that he’s doing things differently than Mike Krzyzewski did is in scheduling. Playing at Arizona and scheduling games with powers like Kentucky, Kansas, Auburn and Illinois - that’s really good.
Playing UConn would really add to that. We will say this, though: if this does happen, Hurley is likely to have his team jacked incredibly high. That would be a fascinating game.
