I tend to agree with the idea that he and other elite level footballers play too much. However the issue is massive clubs with massive squads using only a proportion of their playing staff in this intensive manner. Maybe the footballing powers need to limit the amount of domestic games (including friendlies) players can play in a calendar year. Do the same for international matches as well, but flex these numbers slightly to allow for World Cup years etc.
A slight leveler of the premier league would be when Man City decide to remove Rodri and Haaland against, say Crystal Palace away, and come a cropper. It would also make them think whether the commercial pull of playing Stones and Foden in a lucrative season ending tour of the USA is good use of their playing time.
Of course this wont happen because big clubs want their big players to play every match except in the cup where they would prefer byes to at least the semi final stage and games decided in 15 minute halves.
