Local Army veteran gifted new car

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A local veteran received a big surprise on Thursday. U.S. Army Sgt. Tamim Tares was awarded a new car.

It was part of a collaboration from Upstate Ford Dealers and the Military Warriors Support Foundation. The non-profit organization helps veterans smoothly transition back to civilian life by helping them with homeownership, transportation, and leadership development.

"It's really just going to change everything for our family," Tares said. "The fact that there are people and groups that are willing to do amazing stuff for veterans is, like I said, a blessing, and they are great people, and I'm very happy to be a part of the program."

The Military Warriors Support Foundation has awarded more than 200 vehicles across the U.S. over the last decade.
