Big Reason – Norwich Legend On Canaries Picking Johannes Hoff Throup

0

Norwich City legend Iwan Roberts is of the opinion that the Canaries appointed Johannes Hoff Thorup based on his experience of developing academy players.

After last season, the Carrow Road hierarchy parted ways with David Wagner and appointed Thorup as their new manager.

Thorup garnered praise at his previous club Nordsjaelland for giving opportunities to young players in the first team and helping with their development.

Last weekend, Norwich secured a 4-1 win over Watford and Roberts pointed out that six players in the starting eleven were aged 23 or under.

The Canaries legend thinks that with the Norwich academy producing good players, the club hierarchy decided upon appointing Thorup, keeping in mind his track record of working with young talents.

“Six of the players who started against Watford were 23 or under”, Roberts wrote in his Pink Un column.

“I never played in a team with that many, but when Johannes came in, his background was working with and developing youngsters and bringing them into the first team at Nordsjaelland.

“That was one of the big reasons why he was given the opportunity with the Academy here doing so well and producing a lot of local talent.”

Norwich are currently in eleventh place in the league table and are three points away from the last playoff spot.
