Austin transit organizations promote 'Week Without Driving' initiative
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A coalition of Austin-area transportation organizations is encouraging Central Texans to take part in the Week Without Driving initiative from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6.
The goal of the event is to highlight "the everyday realities of those who, by circumstance or choice, do not drive," according to an event notice from the Central Texas chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU-CTX).
Participating organizations include CNU-CTX, CapMetro, Movability, Transit Forward, ADAPT of Texas, Safe Streets Austin, AURA, Rethink35, Reconnect Austin, Austin Urbanists, Future of New Urban - Central Texas and the Black + Motal Architecture and Urban Design.
The weeklong effort is designed to highlight the importance of safe and accessible public transit and active mobility options, particularly for those who have disabilities, are older residents or those who cannot afford costs related to vehicle ownership.
Those interested in participating in the initiative can sign up online. More details on the Week Without Driving movement are available online.
