Cameron Green’s India Tour in Doubt After Back Injury Setback
All-rounder Cameron Green of Australia was forced to withdraw from the current tour of England due to a back ailment on Friday, casting question on his ability to play in the prestigious five-match Test series against bitter rivals India.
After the third game at Chester-le-Street on Wednesday, Green, 25, complained of pain, thus he was withdrew from the final two games of Australia’s one-day international series against England.
The injury forced him out of Friday’s postponed fourth ODI at Lord’s.
The batting all-arounder now has to race to be fit for the highly anticipated assignment at home against a team that is currently dominating the World Test Championship (WTC) chart. The all-rounder is returning home to start his recovery ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Test series, which begins in November.
The cricket player underwent scans that showed he had a back issue; further testing in Australia will determine when he would be able to resume playing.
A representative for the Australian men’s squad told cricket.com.au that the player’s comeback date and the severity of his injury “wouldn’t be known until the player arrives home in Perth for further assessment”.
After the Chester-le-Street match, in which he scored 45 runs with the bat and went 2 for 45 with the ball, the cricket player complained of pain.
After bowling in six of their previous matches during their UK tour, he was kept out of the second ODI at Headingley in order to manage his workload.
With a history of back problems, Green’s lower back stress fracture kept him from bowling during the 2019–20 summer season.
The first Test against India is nearly two months away, with the match starting on November 22 in Perth.
