Chappell Roan Cancels This Weekend’s Festival Appearances
Days after Chappell Roan clarified that she’s “voting for fucking Kamala” following backlash to her decision not to make an endorsement, the singer has canceled her upcoming festival appearances. On Friday, she posted an Instagram Story announcing that she was pulling out of her performances due to ongoing mental-health struggles. She’d been scheduled to perform at All Things Go in New York on Saturday and in D.C. on Sunday. “I apologize to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I am unable to perform,” she wrote. “Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks and I am really feeling it.”
“I feel pressures to prioritize a lot of things right now and I need a few days to prioritize my health,” she added. “I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible. Thank you for understanding. Be back soon xox.”
In recent months, Roan has been candid about her experience with depression and bipolar II disorder as she deals with a rapid rise to fame and fan harassment. She also faced backlash this week after she declined to endorse Vice-President Kamala Harris. In a TikTok statement Wednesday, Roan addressed her critics, saying, “Fuck Trump for fucking real, but fuck some of the shit that has gone down in the Democratic Party that has failed people like me and you, and more so, Palestine,” before confirming that she plans to vote for Harris.
All Things Go reposted her statement on Friday with the caption, “We support you Chappell Roan ❤️.” The festival noted that it was “heartbroken” over the last-minute cancellation, but asked fans to remember that “health and well-being always comes first.”
