Burton Albion Fans Verdict: Easy Does It
Harry rounds up the reaction of the Loyal Royals after a comfy 3-1 win against the Brewers.
Well, as far as wins go, that was quite a simple one. Although it was by no means a completely dominant performance, we never really had to get out of second gear.
It has to be said the visitors were really poor, particularly in the first half when we hardly had to do much at all to find ourselves 2-0 up at the break.
Tougher tests will come - of that I have no doubt. But I imagine the players and staff would’ve been crying out for a game like this, with the squad as thin as it is and games coming thick and fast.
Here’s how the fans reacted to the big talking points.
Chem Campbell
As Reading’s solitary signing of the summer, Campbell arrived with a bit of pressure to start delivering. It hasn’t been a very easy start for him though.
To me, he just doesn’t look match-fit yet. But because of how thin the squad is he’s had to play near enough every minute so far. However, Tuesday night’s game should do him the world of good.
Again he wasn’t imperious by any stretch, but grabbing his first two goals was really good for him. And the fans were pleased for him too...
Me to myself when Campbell scores twice #readingfc pic.twitter.com/KyP7qlyfht

Excellent half! Two moments of magic from Chem Campbell which is great to see. Hopefully he kicks on from here. Good start #readingfc

Be honest, we all thought Chem Campbell was rubbish 45 minutes ago, happy for him to prove us wrong#ReadingFC

Andre Garcia
I don't know about you but I was really surprised to see Garcia in the starting line-up when I checked my phone at 7pm. Kelvin Abrefa has been solid since replacing Jeriel Dorsett up at Bolton, and Ruben Selles isn’t usually the type to switch up a winning formula.
However, boy did Garcia impress. Again, Burton didn't exactly put his defensive abilities to the test, but he looked really assured on the ball, and he and Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan provided a real threat in the first half.
Our academy is notoriously full of gold dust, and we may have just uncovered another gem...
Can’t believe Garcia is only 16. Going to be some player. #readingfc

Garcia is a great prospect. I hope we’ve got him nailed down contractually as much as we can before the vultures from the big six swoop down on him. Essential for his development that Ruben Selles stays. #readingfc

Garcia really proved himself today. Top top talent him #Readingfc

Garcia the stand out player for me tonight. Composed on the ball and looked decent defensively #readingfc

A comfy win
Whether you’re an optimist or pessimist will decide whether you think we never needed to ramp it up beyond 60%, or we were actually not that great and should’ve played better.
Whichever way you look at it, it was a rather comfortable win, and we don’t get to enjoy them that often.
Burton didn’t really offer a threat - the claim from their manager that they were ‘absolutely dominant’ in the second half is a bit wayward. Yes, we weren't great all evening, but we didn’t really have to be.
The fans enjoyed another three points...
Back to back wins. Brilliant!

I'm very glad I was wrong; helped by the fact Burton were dreadful. Win is a win and 6 points from two is fantastic. #readingfc https://t.co/m6QLwBkLam

Another good result. Second half poor but game was pretty much won at half time against a very poor Burton side. Not playing particularly well and picking up wins is a good habit though #readingfc

That was one of the most comfortable home wins I’ve seen for ages. The difference in quality was very different from the first 10-15 mins and felt like a matter of time before we got an opener #readingfc

Easy win tonight. In recent times we would lose to a side that hadn't won a match in the opening 7. Today we never looked like we would lose.

I am pleased with our past 2 games after 2 poor matches.
I doubt it will be easy on Saturday but let's hope we continue this.#ReadingFC
Conclusion
We will have tougher tests, that's for sure. And we will have to play a lot better than we did to continue picking up results against better opposition. But a win is a win, and when you stroll to a victory like we did, without ever really coming under that much pressure, it’s always nice.
Back-to-back wins is really positive and hopefully this is the start of a bit of momentum. Saturday will be tough though, you know what to expect when you come up against a Steve Evans side - but the boys will be full of confidence to grab a result.
