Sanath Jayasuriya announced as Permanent head coach of Sri Lankan team
Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed as the head coach of Sri Lanka men’s team. He was there as their coach since the beginning of July, but now had been functioning in an interim capacity. But since he gave impressive outcomes, Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to give him the full-time job.
Sri Lanka won their first bilateral ODI series against India in 27 years, all because of the leadership of Jayasuriya. Sri Lanka also defeated England in a Test for the first time in 10 years, and recently whitewashed New Zealand in home Tests to qualify for the World Test Championship finals.
“The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket made this decision taking into consideration the team’s good performances in the recent tours against India, England, and New Zealand, where Jayasuriya was in charge as the ‘interim head coach‘,” the board statement said.
This is going to be first serious time for Jayasuriya in coaching. He has previously said in interviews that he perceives at his primary role to be creating an environment in which players can operate with freedom.
