St. Lucia Kings lift maiden CPL title with victory over Guyana Amazon Warriors
Under the leadership of legendary South African batter Faf du Plessis, the St. Lucia Kings won their first-ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title with a 6-wicket win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Sunday, October .
After winning the toss and electing to field first, the St. Lucia-based franchise kept on taking wickets regularly which helped in restricting the opponents to a low score.
South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorious was the top-scorer for the Guyana-based franchise with his knock of 25. Other cameos included Shai Hope’s 22 and Romario Shepherd’s 19 which led the side to a total of 138/8 after 20 overs.
In reply, the St. Lucia Kings didn’t have a great start and ended up losing their openers early. As they got restricted to 51/4 after 9.5 overs, it looked like the match would go down to the wire. However, an exceptional 88-run stand between Roston Chase (39*) and Aaron Jones (48*) guided the St. Lucia Kings to the CPL title.
Roston Chase was awarded with the Player of the Match award for his match-winning knock and also for his bowling figures of 1/13 in 2 overs.
Noor Ahmad who plays for the St. Lucia-based franchise was awarded for the Player of the Series award. The Afghanistan spinner took 22 wickets in total during the tournament and picked up 3 important wickets in the final as well to restrict the Guyana Amazon Warriors to a low total.
