ICC Champions Trophy 2024: Pakistan board chairman Mohsin Naqvi makes BIG statement on Team India, says ‘Indian team pe badi umeed hai…’, WATCH video
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are the hosts of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 set to take place next year. The big question on everyone’s mind is whether Team India will agree to travel to Pakistan for the first time in more than a decade.
The Indian cricket team have refused to travel to Pakistan due to diplomatic reasons between the two neighbours. The PCB were forced to apply a ‘hybrid’ model to the Asia Cup 2023 after India again refused to travel to Pakistan and that tournament was subsequently jointly hosted by both Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi made a big statement about Team India and their participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Speaking to the press, Naqvi said, “Indian team mujhe puri umeed hai… Abhi tak koi aisi cheej nahi hai jiski wajeh se vo postpone karey ya cancel karey. Toh sari teams aayengi (Team India will come to play the Champions Trophy, all the teams will come).”

India haven’t traveled to Pakistan in the 16 years since 2008, whereas Pakistan have visited India three times in that period including the 2023 ODI World Cup last year. In addition to this, no major ICC tournaments have been hosted entirely in Pakistan since the 1996 ODI World Cup.
During the 2023 World Cup, Babar Azam-led Pakistan played two matches each in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata and the high-voltage match with arch-rivals India was played at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium on October 14.
There is speculation that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 could be played in a ‘hybrid’ model as well if Team India don’t get permission from the Indian government to travel to Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan began their three-match Test series against England on Monday.
Shan Masood-led Pakistan are playing the first two matches of the Test series in Multan as venues in Lahore and Karachi are not available currently as they are undergoing upgradation ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
