‘No need to fear travelling to Cyprus’
Cyprus airspace is safe and passengers do not need to fear travelling to the island, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades said.
The Republic is strictly enforcing any updates it receives from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Vafeades told state broadcaster CyBC over the weekend.
Moreover, the minister assured, authorities had faithfully implemented any procedural updates for the rerouting of flights which had been scheduled to travel through Israeli and Lebanese airspace.
In the past days when military operations escalated, flights towards Israel and Lebanon were cancelled and grounded at the island’s airports, precisely due their function as a safe emergency landing space, Vafeades said.
The civil aviation and airport services are on full alert and monitoring all unfolding developments, he added.
No flight cancellations to the island had occurred and cancellations involved only hotel accommodation, the minister said.
