Fabio Paratici working with Spurs to complete signing of Serie A star
Tottenham Hotspur and Fabio Paratici may have cut ties officially last year, but the Italian is thought to still be helping the North London side when it comes to the transfer of one exciting talent from Serie A.
Spurs have been watching Samuele Ricci
Over the summer, it was suggested Spurs were keen to find a new defensive midfielder, especially after the departures of both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp.
However, with the arrival of Archie Gray, and the continued service of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur, it appears Tottenham decided against adding more players in that position, at least for the meantime.
That doesn’t stop the rumour mill from turning, though, and the Lilywhites have now been linked with Torino midfielder, Samuele Ricci.
Last month, it was reported Spurs had sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old during the last international break (HITC). It is thought Ange Postecoglou is indeed looking for another number six midfielder, and Ricci is now on Tottenham’s radar.
Paratici’s fingerprints are all over Ricci deal
The latest on the matter comes from former Spurs goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, who suggests the club will look to sign Ricci next summer and he says he would not be surprised if Fabio Paratici was involved in any potential deal.
Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “If you look at the way the team’s played in recent weeks in more of a 4-3-3 formation, I’m not sure whether the midfield will be a [priority] position.
“But he’s a young player, he’s only 23 years old and he’s already got four caps for Italy. Tottenham are certainly interested in signing him. I think it’ll be tough to do in the winter but that is potentially one they’ll explore in the summer.
“We know that Spurs like to do their business in Italy. They’ve had a lot of success from players who have come to the club from the Serie A, and maybe that’s why Ricci is the latest name to be mentioned. It’s still got the fingerprints of Fabio Paratici working with Tottenham’s recruitment team.”
Do Spurs need a new midfielder?
The combination of Bentancur, Maddison, and Kulusevski appears to be the best trio in the middle of the park for Spurs right now. Meanwhile, Pape Sarr, Bissouma, and Gray all offer something a little different there, so no, I wouldn’t say signing another midfielder is essential for Spurs.
